The Sunday, Feb. 9 evening card at Flamboro Downs featured a pair of $9,500 co-features, where Job Hunter and Saulsbrook Tsunami captured victories.
In the Race 10 co-feature, Jeff Hunt and 1-5 favourite Job Hunter delivered a commanding wire-to-wire performance, taking the lead early and never facing a serious challenge. The duo set steady fractions of :28, :58.2 and 1:28 before cruising to victory in 1:57 by 2-1/4 lengths. Le Bec Fin (Todd Ratchford) settled for second, while Acefortyfour Rebel (Sam Fillion) rounded out the top three.
Job Hunter, a four-year-old Huntsville - Do Your Job mare, is trained and owned by Jeff Hunt. The victory marked her fourth career win, pushing her earnings to $37,890. She returned $2.60 to bettors.
The second co-feature of the night, Race 11, went to Saulsbrook Tsunami and Brett MacDonald. Magical Aoine (Sam Fillion) briefly held the lead before even-money favourite Clints Vett (Anthony Haughan) took control, setting fractions of :28.2, :57.4 and 1:27.4. However, Saulsbrook Tsunami had plenty left in the tank heading into the final turn, advancing first-over from just before the three-quarter mark to eventually surge past a tiring Clints Vett and claim victory by a length in 1:58.2. No Fool Mackinley (Scott Coulter) closed well for second, while Magical Aoine was third.
A four-year-old Mcwicked - Atlanta Girl gelding, Saulsbrook Tsunami is trained by Ron MacDonald for owners Brett MacDonald, Brent MacLennan, Charlie Fitzpatrick and Shen Guo. The victory marked his third career win, increasing his lifetime earnings to $42,450. Bettors who backed him were rewarded with a $9.60 payout.
As the only North American Standardbred track in action on Super Bowl Sunday, Flamboro's handle came in at $861,114 for the 12-race offering. That total is higher than its 2024 Super Bowl Sunday card, which resulted in a $835,133 handle under similar solo spotlight.
