Benjamin Hanover Wins Coast-To-Coast At Dover
Benjamin Hanover overpowered the best trotters on the grounds at Bally's Dover in the $36,232 Open Handicap Trot on Tuesday night, Feb. 4.
Last Glow (Jack Parker Jr.) and Benjamin Hanover (Tim Tetrick) each left alertly to start the race. Benjamin Hanover cleared the lead at the quarter pole while Last Glow retreated to the pocket. Tetrick and Benjamin Hanover controlled the tempo with splits in :28 and :57.3. Keg Stand (Anthony Morgan) braved a first-over try, followed by Platinum As while Last Glow maintained position in the pocket.
Benjamin Hanover, the 1-9 betting favourite, set sail trotting to the three-quarters in 1:26.1 before drawing off in the stretch to win by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:54.2. Last Glow saved ground and finished second and Keg Stand survived a first-over trip to finish third.
Scott Di Domenico trains the Sebastian K S-By A Neck Hanover gelding for Angela Cornell of Freehold, New Jersey. The win was Benjamin Hanover's fourth straight.
Earlier in the evening, J L Cruze won his 74th lifetime victory in 1:56.1.
Corey Callahan scored a driving grand slam on the card.
Wednesday's feature at Dover is the $25,000 USD Mares Open Handicap Pace in race 10 as Majorca N, a convincing winner last week, takes on Incaseyoudidntknow.
Bally's Dover races Monday through Thursday with a first post time of 4:30 p.m.
