P L Oliver Takes Western Fair Preferred

P L Oliver

P L Oliver won his fifth career Preferred Pace on Tuesday, Feb. 4 at The Raceway at Western Fair District, banking the lion's share of the $15,000 purse in the process.

The gate pulled away in front of the stands and the field staggered out vying for position. P L Oliver (Travis Henry) was the first to the front, but Betthebeach Yankee (J Harris) sprinted to take command to the quarter in :28.2. As soon as Betthebeach Yankee cleared, P L Oliver tipped to the outside and regained control of the field. The Lindsey Kerr trainee clipped the half in :59 and continued forward, brushing off the advances of Lord Anthony (Tyler Borth). After the 1:28.4 three-quarters, a wall of pacers were at P L Oliver's heels, but he dug in and kept going to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:59.1 over the 'good' track. Lord Anthony finished second and Heza Handy Man (Michael Horner) nabbed the show dough over Betthebeach Yankee and Ideal Perception (Anthony Haughan).

Alan Janik and Sally Charlton of Tecumseh, Ont. co-own the seven-year-old gelded son of Sportswriter out of the Mach Three mare P L Gotcha. P L Oliver won his second race from three starts in 2025 and his 27th career race from 139 starts. He sports $266,708 in career earnings. Backed as the bettors' choice at 2-1, the gelding paid $6.20 to win.
