Accident Involves Two At Western Fair
The start of the third race at Western Fair District was marred by a two-horse accident on Wednesday afternoon
.
Moving behind the gate from Post 6 at the start of the race, C C Callmekelly fell to the ground unseating driver Alex Lilley and got tangled up with outsider Tail R Swift, who also fell and tossed Alfie Carroll into the rail.
Both drivers were up on their feet following the incident and returned to action. Carroll bounced back with a win in the following dash aboard Christas Tears for trainer Larry Fitzsimmons and later won the featured $12,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace with Wayne Preszcator trainee Victim Of Love.
According to reports from Western Fair, both horses walked off the track under their own power. Vet examinations revealed one horse suffered scraps to his leg, but was otherwise fine.
The two horses that fell and Beechwood Diana, driven by Mike Whelan, were refunded due to the incident.
