Keg Stand Successful In Dover Open
Keg Stand returned from an earlier defeat to dominate the $35,714 Open Trot at Bally’s Dover on Tuesday, Jan. 28, claiming a convincing victory.
Last Glow (Jack Parker Jr.) and Chapheart (Pat Berry) battled fiercely trotting into the first turn. After settling in the pocket, Last Glow re-took the lead from a stubborn Chapheart past the opening quarter in :27.3. Last Glow led the field to the half in :57, trotting a rated :29.2 second quarter.
Meanwhile, Keg Stand (Anthony Morgan), sitting fourth, became restless and unleashed a powerful brush past the half, quickly clearing to the front down the backstretch. Platinum As (Allan Davis) advanced first-over, while Rivers (Corey Callahan) followed second-over, but both bids stalled.
Keg Stand, the 3-5 betting favourite, surged and passed three-quarters in 1:25, never looking back. He drew off in the stretch to win by five lengths in a time of 1:54, returning $3.40 to win.
Chapheart finished second, while Last Glow held on for third.
Keg Stand, a six-year-old gelding by Bar Hopping out of Palm Beach Bi, is trained by Nicholas Devita for owners David Hamm and Evm Racing LLC. This victory marks his 22nd lifetime win, boosting his career earnings to $848,682.
Tim Tetrick drove six winners on the 14-race betting card.
Bally’s Dover races Monday through Thursday with a 4:30 p.m. post time.
