Powertrain and driver Tyler Jones surged to an 11-1 upset victory in the $36,000 Preferred Pace which served as the feature on the Woodbine Mohawk Park card. Meanwhile, driver Doug McNair was red-hot on the evening, winning half of the 12-race card on Satuday (Jan. 25) including steering Wheels On Fire to his 50th career win.

Powertrain left from the rail in the field of nine top-level pacers, getting away fifth early while Jack Panic (Jonathan Drury) crossed over from the outside post to cut the quarter in :28. A revved up No Control (Tyler Borth) pulled from the pocket before assuming command at the half in :57.3 as the 4-5 favourite. Powertrain found himself second-over on the far turn as he waited for Fox Valley Landen (Kyle Husted) to loop around him before following that cover as No Control led to three-quarters in 1:25.3.

Spotting the leader 4-1/2 lengths at three-quarters, Powertrain ripped off cover and began to close as No Control began to come back to the field. Powertain continued to close, grabbing a lead in deep stretch before fending off a closing Pacino Hanover (Travis Cullen) to cross the wire a neck clear in 1:54.2. No Control held for the show position, 1-1/2 lengths back of the winner.

Trained by Nick Gallucci, Powertrain (pictured above) notched his first win of 2025, and 14th victory overall for his career. The seven-year-old gelded son of Shadow Play-MMillion Blue Chip sports lifetime earnings of $420,945 for owner and breeder Millar Farms.

Powertrain paid $24.70 at the betting windows with the upset victory.

While Powertrain pulled a shocker late, driver Doug McNair set the tone for the night early, winning four of the first five races on his way to racking up a half-dozen winners, including driving Wheels On Fire to his 50th career victory against $18,000 conditioned company.

The classy vet got away fourth with McNair while Major Fernco N (Billy Davis Jr.) led to the quarter in :29. Wheels On Fire blitzed first-over to challenge the leader at the half in :59.1, before crossing over to the lead as business picked up to three-quarters in 1:26.1. Wheels On Fire rebuffed a challenge from Redwood Hanover (Johnathan Drury) at the top of the lane, before scoring the victory by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:55. Legion Seelster (Tyler Borth) rallied late to be second, Bee Two Bee (Brett MacDonald) closed for third.

Trained by Gregg McNair for owner Brad Grant, the 50th career win for Wheels On Fire came in career start 180. The 10-year-old gelded son of Somebeachsomewhere-Ab Fab now boasts a career bankroll of $1,192,250 following the score.

Doug McNair would also steer Rockabilly Rebel N ($8.00, 1:56) to victory on the card for father Gregg.

Trainer David Menary was also the recipient of a pair of winning drives from McNair, winning the lid-lifter with Century Jamila ($5.30, 1:56.1)  and Century Heineken ($12.10, 1:53.3).

Doug McNair's two other victories came with Hollywood Deo ($3.90, 1:57.3) for trainer Cassidy Schneider and Batterup Hanover ($5.50, 1:55.3) in the Saturday night finale for trainer Ben Hollingsworth.
