Captaincountrystar and driver Pat Berry vacated the pocket in the stretch and sprinted home to win the $39,855 Blue Hen Open Pace at Bally’s Dover on Thursday night, Jan. 16.

Adam Twelve (Corey Callahan) and Captaincountrystar were quickest off the starting gate as Captaincountrystar cleared the lead after being parked to the opening quarter in :26.1. Adam Twelve, the 6-5 betting favourite, pulled from the pocket and regained the lead racing to the half in :55.3. Hundred Dollar Man (Montrell Teague) became anxious from fourth and paced first-over down the backstretch. Itsrockandroll A (Allan Davis) was carried into a second-over trip. Captaincountrystar watched the action from the pocket as Adam Twelve remained confident on the lead after reaching the three-quarters in 1:23.2. Berry pulled on the right line of Captaincountrystar in the stretch and collared Adam Twelve at the wire to win by a head in 1:51.1, returning $14 to win at the betting windows. Adam Twelve held for place, while Itsrockandroll A finished in the third position.

Captaincountrystar, a son of Captaintreacherous, is owned by Tib Racing of Harrington, Delaware. Traci Berry trains the winner and her husband Pat Berry was the winning driver.

There is a Pick 5 carryover worth $1,444 USD for the sixth race on the Monday, Jan. 20.
