General Custard Wires Field In Century Mile Preferred

General Custard grabbed command from the outset and did not look back from there, leading every step of the way in the $11,500 Preferred 2 Pace at Century Mile on Saturday, Jan. 11.
Sent away as the 6-5 favourite in the scratched down field of seven, General Custard and driver Dave Kelly asserted themselves off the gate, pacing two lengths clear at the quarter pole in :28.2. Kelly grabbed leather to the half in :59 as Matts A Mystician (Nathan Sobey) surged first-over and alongside the leader entering the final turn. The duo raced nose to nose rounding the final turn, reaching three-quarters in 1:27.4.
The top two continued to slug it out in the lane, with General Custard outsprinting Matts A Mystician with a :27.2 final quarter to cross the wire three-quarters of a length in front in 1:55.1. Believe It Sea It (Kelly Hoerdt) finished third, 3-3/4 lengths behind the winner.
Kelly also does the training of General Custard for owner Pick 6 Stable. The five-year-old gelded son of Custard The Dragon-Grinandchaseit is an 11-time winner for his career, banking $175,829 lifetime.
