Glenn Van Camp Passes
Standardbred breeder and owner Glenn Van Camp passed away on Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, with family by his side, at the Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry, Ont., at the age of 90.
Glenn was predeceased by his wife, Donna (nee Dowson). Theirs was a love story for 68 years. He was the devoted son of Harry and Edna Van Camp of Blackstock and father to Bill (Norma), Robert (Cindy) and Paul (Kim). He was adored by his dear grandchildren Mark (Sara), Joel (Rhea), Dean (Sarah), Marta (Tony), Katie (Craig), Alison (James), Emily (Joshua), Molly (Allan), Eric (Nicole), Alex (Lindsay) and Andrew. Thanks to his longevity, he was privileged to have known his 16 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brother Art (Val), and nieces Janice, Jill and Jayne, and nephew David, and he was predeceased by Wayne.
Glenn was the founder of Van Camp Contracting in 1956. A lifetime of his hard work, dedication and business integrity laid the foundation for what is currently a third-generation business. Glenn was always civic minded and gave back through involvement with various service clubs, charities and by serving on many boards during his lifetime. His contributions to his community were many and often anonymous. During his retirement, Glenn was finally able to indulge in his personal passion: harness racing. His beloved racehorses brought him great pleasure and excitement in his later years, including Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame trotter San Pail. His was a life well lived.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bibby and the caring staff at Oak Ridges Hospice for all their compassion and to Wagg Funeral Home for their professional and personal handling of arrangements. The family would also like to thank the staff at Westshore for their sincere care.
The family has decided to hold a celebration of Glenn’s life following the winter season at a date to be announced later. Details will be forthcoming.
If desired, memorial donations may be made to The Port Perry Hospital Foundation or Oak Ridges Hospice. Memories, photos and condolences may be left at waggfuneralhome.com.
