Quill, Stillwell Take Freehold AHDC Trots

Seamus Quill and Jacob Stillwell scored in their respective $10,714 divisions of the American Harness Drivers Club (AHDC) Trot at Freehold Raceway on Saturday, Dec. 21.

Quill registered a pillar-to-post victory with 8-5 favourite Candy Bomber in a 2:02.3 mile. Once taking the lead from post two, Quill cut fractions of :31.1, 1:02.2, and 1:32.1 over the sloppy track and expanded his lead throughout. He opened three lengths on pocket-chaser Hunters Gal (William Clark Jr.) moving for the final turn and wrapped the mile with a 5-1/4-length win. Im The Muscle (Joe Lee) was second while Hunters Gal settled for third. Winneress (Anthony Verruso) rallied from a ground-saving trip for fourth.

Candy Bomber, a four-year-old gelding by Tactical Landing - Candy Lane, is trained by Ron Coyne Jr. for owner Jaypaul Hoover. He paid $5.20 to win.

Jacob Stillwell scored a 7-1 upset in the other AHDC division, leading Exchequer to a 2:02.2 victory. Stillwell kept his horse in the pocket as All Rise (Tony Beltrami) took the lead through a :29.2 opening quarter. The even-money favourite, Classic Playter (Geovany Hernandez), then launched a first-over challenge, reaching the half in 1:00.2 and continuing to apply pressure as they approached the three-quarter mark in 1:31. As the field turned for home, Classic Playter and All Rise continued their battle for the lead, but Exchequer, with a strong late move through the open stretch, surged past both to claim the win by a length. Classic Playter finished second, with All Rise third, and With A Warning (Neil Glasser), who followed a second-over trip, finished fourth.

Exchequer, a seven-year-old gelding by Cash Hall - Royal Pink,  is owned and trained by Vincent Ginsburg. He paid $16.20 to win.

AHDC action resumes on Sunday, Dec. 22, at Harrah’s Philadelphia. First-race post time is 12:40 p.m. EST.
