Funicello/Holt Final Set For Friday At Cal Expo
Overthemoonforyou, who scored a 45-1 shocker in one of last week’s eliminations, and Made Of Misschief, who streaked home in the other, head the cast for Friday night’s $13,900 USD final of the Funicello/Holt for pacing fillies and mares at Cal Expo.
Watch and Wager LLC will present 12 races with a first post of 6:30 p.m. Next week, racing switches to a Friday and Saturday night schedule.
Overthemoonforyou is a three-year-old Minnesota-bred daughter of Karpathian Kid who was acquired before the eliminations by Qks Racing and now takes her lessons from Quentin Schneider. The longest shot on the board last week in her Cal Expo debut, she was last in the early stages and made an extended move first-over down the backside to reach contention. She took over straightening for home and went on to a convincing length and half victory that night for the upset score in 2:01.2 over a 'good' track. She will have Aaron Lehman in the sulky once again and is listed at odds of 5-1 on the morning line from post eight in the 10-horse field.
Made Of Misschief prevailed in 2:03.1 in the other elimination, drawing off by 4-1/2 lengths after securing a pocket trip that evening. Jose Herrera acquired the four-year-old Vlos mare in late November and she returned to the stable of Bob Johnson after a mid-year stint in Minnesota. Made Of Misschief is listed at odds of 10-1 on the morning line and Sean Smithpeters will have the driving assignment from the outside post with last week’s reinsman Luke Plano driving his own trainee, 7-2 second choice Maggie Time.
Plano, who has captured multiple driving titles at Cal Expo and won his first training crown at the last meet, will look to keep the good times rolling after getting off to a fast start on opening night with five trips to the winner’s circle. Plano co-owns Maggie Time with Dave Haness. The three-year-old Lost In Time-Sand Madeline filly will start from post four.
Scott Ehrlich's homebred three-year-old filly TJB Secreharriet (Wind Me Up-Surprisingly Sweet), a runner-up to Made Of Misschief in their elimination, is the 3-1 morning line favourite from post two with Lemoyne Svenden driving for trainer Kathleen Plested.
Completing the field are Quite The Flirt, Rockin The Dragon, Thrill of the Hunt, Captain Cosette and Greatest Honor.
Three carryovers and a trio of reduced takeout wagers will greet players when racing resumes at Cal Expo on Friday night. There will be a $10,950 carryover in the 20-cent early Pick 5; a $2,628 carryover in the 20-cent Hi Five on the final race; and a $570 carryover on the 20-cent Pick 7. The 20-cent early and late Pick 5 and the 20-cent Pick 4 are the bets with the 16 per cent takeout rate and there will be a $40,000-guaranteed gross pool on the early Pick 5.
