Jett Propelled Soars To DSBF Series Sweep
On the strength of open-length wins in both preliminary rounds of the Delaware Standardbred Breeders' Fund (DSBF) series for three-year-old pacing fillies at Bally's Dover, Jett Propelled soared to a lifetime-best 1:53.3 win in the $157,143 series championship on Wednesday (Dec. 18).
With Jason Thompson once again at the lines, the Roddys Bags Again-Jett Away filly pushed to clear of Smalltown Bad Girl to assume the lead midway around the first turn and fended off sustained outside pressure from Amelia Maximus through a :56 first half before asserting herself to dismiss that challenger up the backstretch. After rating a :29 third sectional, Jett Propelled faced a stern challenge from Slipinsidewayz (driven by Victor Kirby), who vaulted three-wide around stalled cover on the far turn.
Jett Propelled never relinquished her lead, and after parrying Slipinsidewayz, she edged 2-1/2 lengths clear of pocket rival and runner-up Smalltown Bad Girl (Tim Tetrick) to score her fifth consecutive win. Slipinsidewayz finished third after leveling off in the stretch.
Robert Shahan owns, trains and bred Jett Propelled, now a 12-time winner with $328,584 in career earnings. Off the 1-20 favourite in her third consecutive start, she paid $2.10 to win.
The $28,571 DSBF consolation saw Patricia Thorpe's Sweet Bobbie Jo yield the lead after a :28.1 quarter, retake to a :57.3 half, and speed away from Salma to win by 3-1/2 lengths in 1:55.3. Corey Callahan drove the Badlands Nitro-Rustys Winning filly, who paid $6.20 to win, for trainer Brian Wright.
The 2024 DSBF program concludes Thursday (Dec. 19) with the $110,000 USD championship for three-year-old male pacers, carded as the 10th of 15 races, highlighting the final program at Bally's Dover before the track's customary winter break. First post is 4:30 p.m. (EST).
In the $35,714 Open Handicap for pacing mares on Wednesday night, Disturbed Hanover and Barton Dalious braved a first over journey to win.
Majorca N (Corey Callahan) and the 3-5 betting favourite, Elektra A (Tim Tetrick), left the gate the swiftest and dueled to the quarter. Majorca N seized control of the lead while Elektra A surrendered to the pocket past the quarter in :26.1. With a moderate :29 second quarter, Majorca raced comfortably to the :55.1 half. Incaseyoudidntknow (Jim Morand) moved to the outside and was able to grab a second over trip when Disturbed Hanover rushed first over up the backstretch.
Majorca N braced for the challenge from Disturbed Hanover as the pair squared off at the three quarters in 1:22.4. Despite 30-1 odds bestowed on her, Disturbed Hanover was able to wear down both Elektra A and Majorca N in deep stretch, winning by a neck in a career best 1:51.1. Elektra A finished second over Majorca N in third.
A daughter of Big Jim - Driven To Sin, Disturbed Hanover is trained by W. Bart Dalious and owned by the Whiz Kids Stable LLC of Dover, Delaware. She paid $63.80 to win.
Live harness racing from Bally's Dover will be dark from Dec. 20 through the 29th and will return on Monday, Dec. 30 with a 4:30 p.m. post time.
