Workslikeacharm's DSBF Win One Of Eight For Tetrick
Workslikeacharm overcame a tough first-over journey to score a lifetime-best 1:56.3 victory in the $157,143 Delaware Standardbred Breeders' Fund (DSBF) series championship for three-year-old male trotters as part of a monster night at the office for driver Tim Tetrick at Bally's Dover on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Tim Tetrick kept Workslikeacharm close to the pace early, moving him off the pegs from third as the field hit the half in :57.1. The E L Platinum – Charming Oaks gelding steadily advanced, overtaking Ronnie Ridge (Tony Morgan) on the backstretch and drawing alongside Pretty Two (Cody Poliseno) by the three-quarter pole in 1:26.4. Taking control on the final turn, Workslikeacharm easily dispatched Pretty Two and held off a late bid from LGs Bluestone (Ross Wolfenden) to win by 1-3/4 lengths. LGs Jaxon (Jim Morand) finished third.
Trained by Jim King Jr. and owned by Brett MacDonald of Ontario, Workslikeacharm captured his eighth career victory in the DSBF Championship, paying $3.20 to win. The trotter now has $272,321 in lifetime earnings.
Tetrick also won the $28,571 DSBF consolation for sophomore male trotters, steering Portnoy to a 5-1/4-length, 1:58.1 victory over Daddy Wags (Trae Porter) and Jetsam (Allan Davis). Deshawn Sample trains the Rolls Blue Chip - Mica colt, who paid $2.40 to win, for owner-breeder Dawn Amiss.
Tetrick also scored a victory in the Open Handicap Trot with Mrmayor Hanover.
Mrmayor Hanover and 3-5 favourite Chapheart (Pat Berry) left the gate together. Chapheart took the lead at the opening quarter in :28, with Mrmayor Hanover settling right behind him. However, Mrmayor Hanover brushed to the front in front of the stands, reaching the half in :57.2, while Chapheart followed from the pocket.
The field remained single-file as Mrmayor Hanover maintained an uncontested lead, reaching the three-quarter pole in 1:24.4. He drew away in the stretch to win by 2-3/4 lengths, trotting the mile in 1:53.4. Chapheart (Pat Berry) finished second, with Swans Maid (Jim Morand) taking third.
Mrmayor Hanover, a five-year-old gelding by Explosive Matter out of Mrs Ronerail, is owned by Sartin Racing LLC of Bear, DE, and trained by Chuck Crissman Jr. He returned $5.80 to win.
In total, Tetrick won eight races on the 15-race card, just one shy of his record nine wins at Bally's Dover in 2011.
The action continues on Wednesday, with the $110,000 USD DSBF Final for three-year-old pacing fillies and the $25,000 USD Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace.
Live harness racing at Bally’s Dover will be on break from Dec. 20-29 and return on Dec. 30.
