Amigo Volo Takes Mohawk Preferred
Amigo Volo delivered a dominant wire-to-wire performance in the $36,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday, Dec. 16, racing to victory in rainy and wet conditions.
As the 3-5 favourite, James MacDonald sent Amigo Volo to the front from the gate, quickly establishing control as the field lined up in the opening turn. The pair set the fractions with ease, clicking off :28, :58.2, and 1:26.4. While there was little movement on the backside, Franks Angel (Bob McClure) made a bid, first over from fifth just before the half. However, Amigo Volo remained strong throughout, and no horse could mount a serious challenge. With a comfortable four-length lead, he crossed the wire in 1:54.3, securing a dominant victory over the 'good' track.
Safe Conduct (Chris Christoforou) finished a comfortable second, while New Rules (Trevor Henry) narrowly edged Quebec Hanover (Scott Young) for third.
Amigo Volo, a seven-year-old gelding by Father Patrick out of Margarita Momma, now has 11 wins from 27 starts this season. Trained by Meg Crone, he is co-owned by the Pinske Stables and David J. Miller. The favoured trotter paid $2.40 to win.
Live harness racing continues at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday, Dec. 19.
