Marnie Hall Triumphs In Mares Open
Marnie Hall made a strong dash through the stretch to catch the pacesetter, To Helen Back, in the final strides to win the $44,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Woodbine Racetrack on Friday night.
Driven by Rick Zeron, Marnie Hall got away fourth from Post 6 as To Helen Back (Mike Saftic) cleared the front before the first quarter station in :26.1. Marnie Hall tipped out before the half in :54.4 and advanced on the pacesetter through a 1:22.3 third quarter panel. With a strong :27.1 final effort, Marnie Hall sprinted home, winning for the second week in a row in 1:50.2 by a neck.
To Helen Back stayed for second and Guestimate (Mark MacDonald) finished third.
The six-year-old daughter of Blissful Hall scored her 20th lifetime victory and lifted her bankroll to $1,212,585 for trainer Mark Silva and co-owners Daniel Plouffe of Bedford and Jean Dessureault of Candiac, Que.
