Platinum Proposal Completes DSBF Series Sweep

On Monday, Dec. 16, Platinum Proposal overcame a mid-move break in stride to rally past the 3-5 favourite, Going Platinum, securing a 1:57.3 victory in the $157,143 Delaware Standardbred Breeders' Fund (DSBF) series championship for three-year-old trotting fillies at Bally's Dover.

Jim Morand took a patient approach early with the E L Platinum - SJs Proposal filly, settling back to fifth while Going Platinum (Corey Callahan) and FD Pure Platinum (Justin Parker) battled through a :27.3 opening quarter. As the race unfolded, Morand angled Platinum Proposal off the pegs and began to make a strong move, quickly closing a five-length gap with just under a half-mile to go.

After circling three-wide around a fading FD Pure Platinum following a :57.1 half, Platinum Proposal quickly edged past Going Platinum before breaking stride briefly as the field approached the final turn. This allowed Going Platinum to open up a three-length advantage at the three-quarter mark in 1:26.3. However, Platinum Proposal quickly regained her composure and re-engaged Going Platinum off the final turn. With a strong stretch drive, Platinum Proposal surged ahead, defeating Going Platinum by half a length at the wire.

Marinos Prize (Ross Wolfenden) came on late to finish third, while Daburg (Tony Morgan) rallied mildly to fourth after saving ground throughout the mile.

Les Givens trains Platinum Proposal, a 12-time winner with $387,948 in career earnings, for Teresa Givens' Nanticoke Racing and Delbert Cain. As the 6-5 second choice, she paid $4.40 to win.

In the $28,571 DSBF consolation for three-year-old trotting fillies, Starfish, driven and trained by David Rearic, make a strong move from third-over to overtake Luvyas Nugget, winning by a length in a time of 2:00.4.

The Glidemaster - Miss Fairfax filly, who competes as a homebred for Rearic, paid $20 in her maiden-breaking victory.
