Terrific Tune-Up For Returning Truffles Too
Top class trotter Truffles Too made his return to action on Canadian soil after a summer stint stateside, debuting for a new barn during the session of qualifiers at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday, Dec. 13.
Truffles Too (Donato Hanover - Truffles) spent the summer in the barn of Travis Alexander and nearly trotted back to his 1:52.3 lifetime mark with a 1:53f score at Pocono in late July. But after a series of breaks in August and September, the six-year-old gelding received some time off in preparation for a return to action under the guidance of new trainer Mark Etsell.
With Etsell at the controls, Truffles Too sat third for the majority of his return performance, angling off the pylons around the three-quarter mark to challenge tempo-setting The Lionking As (Louis-Philippe Roy). After collaring the early leader at the head of the lane, Truffles Too fended off a challenge from rail-skimming Gigondas (Billy Davis Jr.) to score by a head in 1:59.3.
A 23-time winner with more than $437,000 in earnings, Truffles Too is owned by Deanmar Sons Stable, John Freda and Marc Gullo of Mississauga, Ont. in partnership with Peter Miskolczi of Brampton.
