In a battle of first round Les Quebecoises Series pacing winners, Whitemountainpower defeated Shanghai Tiger for a series double on Saturday afternoon at Hippodrome Quebec

Driven by Stephane Brosseau, slight favourite Whitemountainpower ($4.40) went wire-to-wire to win his $6,000 second leg division in 1:57.1 by one and a quarter lengths over Shanghai Tiger and the pocket-sitting Winoc Jimmy. The five-year-old Yankee Cam-Message Hanover gelding, who is now two-for-two for his new owner Louison Morin of Beauceville, Que., notched his 10th career win and pushed his earnings over the $50,000 mark. He is trained by Marc Andre Simoneau.
Making his first start in the series, favourite D Gs Woodstock ($3.60) and driver Mario Charron won the other male pacing division with an eight and a quarter length romp in 1:55.1. China Grill advanced first over for second place honours over pocket-sitter Cliff Drummond. The homebred five-year-old Yankee Cam-Wondrous Killean gelding, who has won nine times while banking close to $60,000 lifetime, is owned by trainer Guylaine Fortin and Daniel Surprenant of Saint-Valentin, Que., and Yves Sarrazin of La Presentation, Que.
In the first mares division, Lady Luna ($10.40) converted a pocket trip into a 2:01.1 half-length score over first leg champ Godiva Beachgirl, the heavy favourite and pacesetter. Angel Bro finished four lengths back in third. Driver Sylvain Lacaille also owns the four-year-old Yankee Cam-Lady Of Art miss, who was third in the opening leg, while Chantal Duval handles the training duties. The victory was her sixth lifetime and the winnings put her career earnings at $48,130.
Petite Courageuse ($4.30) and trainer-driver Marcel Barrieau went down the road to win another division by three lengths, defeating the other first round winner and favourite Lizo Maggs in 1:59.3. Shari Drummond finished third. The five-year-old Shanghai Phil-Racey Date mare, who was beat by just a head in the opening round by Godiva Beachgirl, is owned by Hudson Standrdbrd Stb Inc. of Hudson, Que. The win was her 11th lifetime and the lion's share of the purse lifted her bankroll to $91,439.
The series continues on Sunday with trotters taking the stage.
