Kenneth MacDougall Passes

In loving memory of Kenneth MacDougall

Kenneth Raymond MacDougall passed away suddenly on Dec. 5, 2024, at the age of 66.

Kenny was born and grew up in the Shipyard area of Sydney, N.S., but was currently residing in Fort McMurray, Alta., to be close to his children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Ray and Edna (Farquhar) MacDougall.

Kenny was employed at Sydney Steel and later worked as a Heavy Equipment operator in Alberta. Since childhood, he was involved with racehorses and was an active member of the horsemen's association in Cape Breton. He enjoyed spending time at the track watching his horses race, as well as hanging around the barn catching up with his friends. Old Home Week was always a much-anticipated event to attend every year, as he looked forward to the time he would catch up with old friends and spend time doing what he loved.

Kenny was an outgoing, social person who loved spending time with his friends and family. Family was always an important part of Kenny's life. He always said he was blessed to see his grandchildren born and in the recent years, spent ample time with them, watching them grow.

He is survived by his loving wife and partner of 43 years, Anne (Taylor) MacDougall, as well as his son, Keith (Jenny Sutherland) MacDougall, and daughter, Janine (Rod) Morrison, along with his most cherished possessions, Sloane, Isla, Finlay (Keith and Jenny MacDougall) and Madelyn, Sophie (Janine and Rod Morrison). Kenny is also survived by his loving sister, Eleanor MacDougall (Al Wight).

Although he resided in Alberta, Cape Breton was always his home. He loved the beauty and everything that the island offered. Fall drives around the Cabot Trail with Anne were one of the things he always looked forward to. In the summer, he enjoyed taking in a round of golf with his son, Keith, and the boys, and always looked forward to lobster season. Throughout the years, he enjoyed travelling (to anywhere warm) with his family, while cruises held some special memories.

As per Kenny's wishes, a visitation or funeral will not be conducted. However, a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date as determined by his family.
