Quebec Hanover Wins Mohawk Feature
Quebec Hanover triumphed in the $24,000 feature trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday, Dec. 9, despite thick fog and challenging weather conditions.
The 11-1 longshot, driven by Scott Young, showed grit and composure in the tough conditions. Franks Angel (Bob McClure) was first to the front, but soon yielded to 5-2 favourite Looks Like Moni (James MacDonald), who set fractions of :28, :58 and 1:26.3. As Looks Like Moni was pressed by the 6-5 favourite, Prince Of Honor (Tyler Borth), at the three-quarter pole, Quebec Hanover found room on the inside, surging past both rivals to capture the victory in 1:55.2 by three-quarters of a length over the 'good' track.
Quebec Hanover, who paid $25.60 to win, is a four-year-old gelding by Walner out of Queen Of Grace. He is trained by Benoit Baillargeon, who co-owns him with Claude Hamel, Santo Vena and Nunzio Vena. This victory marks his eighth win of the season from 34 starts, with earnings now totalling $136,870 — a career-best season for the trotter.
Live racing resumes at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday, Dec. 12.
