Winbak Farm has announced the retirement of 22-year-old pacing stallion Roddys Bags Again.

“Roddys Bags Again was a fast racehorse who we thought would be a great fit for the Delaware program and he exceeded our expectations,” said Joe Thomson, owner of Winbak Farm. “He sired many Delaware champions and his offspring are still winning in the program.”

Roddys Bags Again p,2,1:54.3; 3,1:50.2f; 1:48.4 ($725,622) earned 23 wins and 27 other top three finishes from 92 starts in his racing career. He was stakes placed at two, finishing third in an elimination of the Breeders Crown elimination and divisions of the Reynolds and Arden Downs stakes. His stakes wins at three included the Matron, two Pennsylvania Sires Stakes divisions and a division of the Keystone Classic. He was third in eliminations for the Breeders Crown and Little Brown Jug. As an aged horse, he also hit the board in the series finals of the Aquarius, Four Leaf Clover, Spring Pacing Championship and Presidential.

Roddys Bags Again was bred and owned during his racing and breeding career by Robert and/or Norma Messick.

The son of the late sire Dragon Again is out of New Jersey Sire Stakes winner Get The Bags p,3,1:55.2 ($151,231) and his sibliings include half brother Deliver The Bags p,1:52.2f ($133,305).

“Roddys Bags Again is a handsome and smart stallion who has sired great-looking individuals,” said Jack Burke, General Manager at Winbak Farm. “He has been a longtime resident of Winbak Farm of Delaware and well-loved by our team.”

Roddys Bags Again stood in Delaware from 2008 to 2024. He has continually been a leading pacing sire in Delaware. He is the sire of 83.7 per cent of starters from foals of racing age and 83.5 per cent of his starters have records. His offspring have earned $14,458,278.

Roddys Bags Again is the sire of Lady Maud Stakes winner Purrfect Bags p,3,1:51.2h ($675,489) along with fellow multiple Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) Stakes final winners Hot Roddy p,1:52.1h ($445,403) and Bags To Riches, p, 1:49.1f ($402,989).

“Roddys Bags Again has sired numerous winners,” said Burke. “His richest daughter, Purrfect Bags, was bred, raised and sold by Winbak Farm and is now a broodmare at the farm.”

Recent standouts sired by Roddys Bags Again include 2024 DSBF final winners Curtsyforpurrseco p,3,1:56.1h -’24 ($248,906) and Captain Pete p, 3,1:52.1f -’24 ($149,425) as well as Jett Propelled p,3,1:53.4f -’24 ($221,842) and Immaculate Inning p,2,1:57.1f -’24 ($51,690).  

As a broodmare sire, Roddys Bags Again broodmares include Designed To Dance p,1:54.4h ($248,222), Beantown Babe p, 3,1:53.3f -’23 ($171,690) and Officer Wholihan p,1:52.3f ($119,503).

Roddys Bags Again will continue to live at Winbak Farm of Delaware for his retirement.
