I Ama Rocket Triples Up Gagnon In Preferred
I Ama Rocket made every pole a winning one before using a final burst in the stretch to win the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Pace at Rideau Carleton Raceway by a neck in 1:52.2 on Sunday, Nov. 17. Guy Gagnon completed a training triple on the card with the victory in the finale and card feature.
I Ama Rocket and his trainer went to the gate as the bettors' choice in post three with matching odds as post four Early Action (Robert Shepherd). Gagnon sent his student forward and they clicked out quarters in :26.4, :56.2 and 1:23.2. Early Action moved first over at the half and up to challenge I Ama Rocket down the lane. With one final burst of energy, I Ama Rocket had just enough in the tank to prevail at the wire by a neck in 1:52.2 over Early Action. Light The Torch (Pascal Berube) finished third.
Louise Ricard owns I Ama Rocket (Custard The Dragon-Machs Rocket), who won his seventh race of the season from 33 starts and has banked $62,580. With 182 career starts, the eight-year-old gelding has posted a record of 42-24-31 to go along with $418,021 earned. He paid $4.60 to win.
Gagnon secured two additional wins with Conquest Seelster ($3.70) in 1:54 and Make It Come True ($3.50) in 1:55, both driven by himself, to record a training hat trick on the card.
