Henry And Demers Lead Western Fair Winners Friday

Harness racing at The Raceway at Western Fair District

Driver Travis Henry and trainer Gerard Demers were the Friday night win leaders at The Raceway at Western Fair District while combining for multiple victories during the 11-race card.

As part of his five-win Friday, Henry drove three winners from the Demers stable, including the claiming pacing mare Southwind Bayou ($2.60) and the three-year-old pacing filly Wicked Discovery ($4.80), both trailing tier starters with the latter winning her fourth race in a row, as well as trotter Goaltender ($4.30).

The training triple for Demers puts his seasonal win total at 124, a career-high and fourth best in Canada this year among trainers. This is his sixth season with more than 100 wins and the Freelton, Ont. horseman is on pace to record his first million-dollar campaign.

Henry also won with claiming pacer Military Secret ($4.20) from the Michelle Sherman stable and three-year-old pacing filly O Large Marge ($6.10), trained by Mike Saftic.

The Embro, Ont. reinsman has topped the 300-win mark and $2 million in earnings for three consecutive years, with this season's 344 victories and counting a personal best landing him in second-place on the national leaderboard.
