Quarrel Doubles Up In Vernon Mares Open

Quarrel winning at Vernon Downs

Quarrel doubled up in the $11,806 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Vernon Downs, winning a late argument with favourite P L Princess C on Friday, Nov. 15.

Driven by Chris Long for her second win in a row, Quarrel went straight to the front and led a compact field that was scratched down to just four distaffers through fractions of :30.2, 1:02.3 and 1:32. Meanwhile, 1-2 favourite P L Princess C (Aaron Byron), returning to Vernon where she won a pair of Opens in October, made a first-over move from the back heading around the final turn. As the mares reached the stretch, P L Princess C went all out after the leader but came up just short as Quarrel prevailed by a neck in 1:59.4. Unusual Clarity (Ron Harp) finished half a length back in third from the pocket with Boston Jive (Jimmy Whittemore) fourth.

Quarrel, a five-year-old mare by Always B Miki, is trained by Rob Harmon and owned by Karma Racing Inc. She sports a perfect three-for-three record in November, with a win at Plainridge Park to start the month prior to her Vernon victories, and is five-for-25 on the year.

Sent postward as the second choice coming off her Vernon victory a week ago, Quarrel paid $5.20 to win and $2.10 to place. There was no show wagering.

Jimmy Whittemore had a driving grand slam. Rob Harmon and Leopold Sawyers had training doubles.

Vernon Downs will close out its 2024 meet on Saturday, Nov. 16 with post time at 3:05 p.m.
