Whichwaytothebeach Returns A Winner

Whichwaytothebeach

Returning to the track after a two-month hiatus, top class pacer Whichwaytothebeach showed strong strides and solid speed in the session of qualifiers on Friday, Nov. 15 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

A field of five older campaigners went postward in the morning's fourth test, featuring four horses with more than $400,000 in earnings. The most accomplished of that group: $932,000 winner Whichwaytothebeach, who found his way to the front for driver Jody Jamieson after the gate wings folded and then stayed on top for the one-mile outing.

After fractions of :28, :57.2 and 1:27.1, Whichwaytothebeach drifted slightly in the stretch but paced home in :27.3 for the 1:54.4 score. Codename Cigar Box finished second, a length back for driver Travis Cullen, with Violets Rainbow closing well in her local debut for driver Louis-Philippe Roy to round out the top three.

Six-year-old Whichwaytothebeach (Somebeachsomewhere - Swinging Beauty) is trained by Garry Merner for owner Gino Toscani of Mount Hope, Ont. Six of 24 career victories came earlier this year, three of which came at Mohawk's Preferred level.
