A familiar sight in the Rideau Carleton Raceway winner's circle, The Light Speed secured his third straight victory in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Pace, which highlighted the 10-race Sunday, Nov. 10 card.

Leaving from the outside post seven as the 9-5 second choice, driver Guy Gagnon landed The Light Speed in fourth early while Shotgun Jerry (Stephane Pouliot) laid down a hot opening quarter of :26.4.

The Light Speed tipped from fourth to begin his first-over march just after crossing the wire the first time, moving into third as Shotgun Jerry slammed the brakes to the half in :57.3. The pace picked up when The Light Speed moved alongside the leader, putting his nose in front at the three-quarter pole in 1:25.2.

The Light Speed grabbed a clear lead turning for home, putting away Shotgun Jerry to reach the top of the stretch a length clear. The 4-5 favourite, Light The Torch, found late room up the passing lane to put in a late bid, but The Light Speed would not be caught, crossing the wire a length clear in 1:54.2. The Light Speed got up for second and Acapulco Sunburn (Robert Shepherd) finished third.

The victory was the 60th in the career of The Light Speed, who has won 15 of 29 starts this season. Trained by Gagnon, the six-year-old gelded son of Moon Beam-Jayma has banked $433,459 lifetime for owner and breeder Michel Nolette.
