Ellis Triples Saturday At Century Mile
Light precipitation and temperatures close to freezing couldn't put a damper on the hot barn of Travis Ellis on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Century Mile.
Not only did Ellis notch a training hat trick on the Saturday card, that three-bagger broke the deadlock he held with Brandon Campbell atop the Century Mile training leaderboard.
Both Ellis and Campbell entered the 10-dash card on Saturday evening with 18 wins on the season. Campbell did tally one win on Saturday, but Ellis was two better to give him the 21-19 seasonal edge.
The Ellis troop first found the winner's circle in the fourth with Im Outrageous Too (1:58.1; $3.10), then came right back to see photographer Ryan Haynes in the fifth courtesy Trust Me Alot (1:55.4; $3, pictured above). Ellis tripled when Flying Officer (1:56.2; $8.10) prevailed in the penultimate race. All three Ellis trainees were guided to victory by driver Mike Hennessy.
After Saturday's three-win performance with six of seven horses bringing home purse cheques, Ellis sports 244 career victories and more than $1.03 million in purses in his third full year of training. In those three years, he's posted UTRS averages no lower than 0.323.
