Quarrel Wins Mares Open In Vernon Debut

Quarrel winning at Vernon Downs

Quarrel won her Vernon Downs debut in the $11,806 Fillies & Mares Open Pace on Friday, Nov. 8 with Chris Long catch-driving for trainer Rob Harmon.

Quarrel went straight to the front from the outside post five and led at the quarter in :28.3. Long slowed things down with a :30 second quarter, reaching the half in :58.3, then Quarrel started to widen her lead going around the last turn to three-quarters in 1:26.4. As the field reached the stretch, One Surreal Deal (Leon Bailey) went first-up from third and gave everything she had but Quarrel held clear to win in 1:56 by 1-1/4 lengths. Won Surreal Deal settled for second and Unusual Clarity (Ron Harp) finished third off a pocket trip.

Coming off a victory at Plainridge Park where she has raced most of the year, Quarrel was the bettors' choice and paid $2.90 to win. Owned by Karma Racing Inc., the five-year-old Always B Miki-Summer Mystery mare now sports a seasonal summary reading 4-5-5 from 24 starts and recorded her 15th career win, sending her lifetime earnings over $250,000.

Harmon and Long also teamed up with Odds On Unicorn, now a back-to-back Vernon winner, during Friday night's 10-race card.

Live harness racing continues at Vernon on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 3:05 p.m.
