Upgrade, Ellie Hanover Top Harrisburg Day Two

As the 2024 Standardbred Horse Sale continued on Tuesday (Nov. 5) with the second of five sessions at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Upgrade and Ellie Hanover shared the honours as the sales topper with matching bids.

Upgrade, Hip 313, was purchased for $416,667 ($300,000 USD) by Bax Stables of Campbellville, Ont., acting as agent, from the Concord Stud Farm consignment. The filly is sired by Green Manalishi S and is the second foal out of the unraced Credit Winner mare, Uptown Classic, who is a half sister to stakes winner Classical Annie and Flawless Lindy, the dam of the world champion and stallion Southwind Frank.

Ellie Hanover (pictured above), Hip 439, brought a matching bid of $416,667 ($300,000 USD), going to Ake Svanstedt of Wrightstown, New Jersey. Consigned by Hanover Shoe Farms, the Captain Corey filly is the fourth foal out of Expect A Lot, a Glidemaster sister to Kentucky Futurity champion and stallion My MVP. Ellie Hanover's half siblings include the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes-winning two-year-old Elan Hanover ($256,120 - 1:54.4f).

Tavern Onthe Green, Hip 458, was among the top priced yearlings of the day, selling for $312,500 ($225,000 USD) to Determination of Montreal, Que. Consigned by Concord Stud Farm, the Green Manalishi S colt is the third foal out of the Father Patrick mare Flos Conch Shack, a New Jersey stakes winner. Tavern Onthe Green's half-siblings include Mr Grant ($140,853 - 1:54.3f).

Kountry Sill, Hip 202, sold for $277,778 ($200,000 USD) and the winning bidder was Blake MacIntosh of St. George, Ont., acting as agent. The Chapter Seven filly is the second foal out of the Explosive Matter mare Phaetosive, a multiple Grand Circuit stakes winner who earned nearly $1 million and took a mark of 1:51 in a Hambletonian Oaks elimination. She was consigned by agent Anvil And Lace Farm.

Studio Boss, Hip 277, was another yearling priced at $277,778 ($200,000 USD) and the Bettors Delight colt went to Determination of Montreal, Que. Consigned by agent Preferred Equine Marketing, Studio Boss's half siblings include One Of The Guys ($156,315 - 1:53f) and Beltara ($98,384 - 1:51.4f). The colt's dam, Studio One, is an Art Major sister to double millionaire Glowing Report and Must See, the dam of prolific stallion Well Said. 

In total, 379 yearlings went through the sales ring during the second session grossing $20,795,833 ($14,973,000 USD) with an average price of approximately $54,871 ($39,507 USD). The total gross for the first two days yielded $43,793,056 ($31,531,000 USD) for 529 yearlings sold and an average of $82,785 ($59,605 USD). 

In 2023, the two sessions saw 497 yearlings go through the sales ring with $29,913,000 USD accumulated and an average of $60,187 USD.

The remaining yearling session will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m., followed by two mixed sessions on Thursday and Friday starting at 11 a.m.
