MacDonald Drives Five Friday Winners At Mohawk

Canada's 2024 leading driver James MacDonald added five more winner's circle pictures to his portfolio during the Friday, Nov. 1 card at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

MacDonald's first photo op on the 11-race card was with the three-year-old pacing filly Stonebridge Halo ($7.40), who led wire-to-wire in a 1:51 mile to best the favoured Ontario Sires Stakes winner Blazing Belle in the evening's top conditioned pacing class in the $21,000 third race. MacDonald drove the Captain Crunch sister to 1:47 stakes winner Stonebridge Helios for trainer Tony Montini and owners Dan Lagace, Big Als Stables and Edwin Buhler.

In the next race, MacDonald went right back out to win with the Tony Beaton-trained sophomore trotting filly Perfect Angel ($8.30), who took a new lifetime mark of 1:57.3. The Guelph, Ont. reinsman later steered nine-year-old pacing mare Stonebridge Drama ($3.30) from the Jared Mann stable to a seventh race victory in a 1:54.2 neck decision then won the ninth and 10th races with three-year-old fillies Wickedwoman De Vie ($11) in 1:55 on the pace for Nick Gallucci and MVPs Daughter ($5.10) in a career-best 1:55.2 trotting mile for Jean-Francois Maguire.

MacDonald leads all drivers in Canada for wins and his total for the year now stands as 383, which is ninth best is all of North America. The defending three-time O'Brien Award winner has reached a new career-high for earnings in 2024 with horses he's driven banking more than $11.3 million.
