Demers Triples At Western Fair
Gerard Demers kicked off November with a training triple on Friday night at The Raceway at Western Fair District and topped his career-best seasonal win count established more than a decade ago.
Demers opened Friday's 10-race card with a victory courtesy of The Heart Valley ($3.60), who scored in a career-best clocking of 1:57.4, then took the fourth race with Wicked Discovery ($4.50) winning her third straight in 1:58 flat. Demers co-owns both of those sophomore pacing fillies. A recent newcomer to the Freelton, Ont. horseman's stable, seven-year-old pacing mare Southwind Bayou ($8.60) later won the ninth race in 1:59. Travis Henry supplied the winning drives.
Demers had his first 100-win season in 2010 with victories in 112 races, which stood as a career-high until tonight. Currently in the midst of his sixth season with more than 100 wins, he entered Friday at 112 on the year and improved to a new high of 115.
Demers is one of just four trainers with more than 100 victories in Canada this season.
