Preferred Pacers In Action This Weekend In P.E.I.

Twin B Tuffenuff

With the calendar flipped to November, Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park will switch to a Saturday and Sunday afternoon schedule until Dec. 15, when racing goes down to once a week. Regular first-race post time will be 12:30 p.m., for those programs.

This Saturday afternoon, the top purse class, a $3,700 fillies and mares conditioned pace, will hit the track in race 10 with morning line favourite Sugar Bowl, to be driven by Gilles Barrieau, lining up in post three on the starting gate for trainer Jeff Holmes and owners Tommy Collings and Brian MacPhee of Mount Stewart, P.E.I.

Acefortyfour Dome (Jason Hughes) rides into the event with a pair of victories and will be saddled with the outside post five for trainer Ashley Gamester. Other entries include Rosetown Mary (Corey MacPherson), Maggiesdelight (Marc Campbell) and Chelski (Damian MacLellan).

The Post Time Picks likes Sugar Bowl to win: “Sugar Bowl paid a hefty price to lead in the MacRae final and got collared by Chelski at the finish, so if Barrieau can get to the front without a tussle, she could go all the way.”

Race four is In Memory Of Jerome Campbell and Rock N Roll Cays (David Dowling) is selected on top from post four for trainer Jennifer Doyle.

Race five is the MacPhee Memorial with Sensational Gal (Barrieau) favoured off the rail for trainer Nicholas Oakes.

The $3,450 Open Trot lines up in race eight with the likes of the Doyle-trained favourite New Legacy (Dowling), Fight Song (Hughes) and Irish Ray (Adam Merner).

Prior to the official program, there will be a three-horse All Star Cresting Prospect Trot for $3,200 at 12:15 p.m.

Some of the best aged pacers to ever assemble for a P.E.I. Preferred Pace will do battle again on Sunday afternoon at Red Shores Charlottetown. The feature on the 12-race card goes as the 11th dash with a purse of $4,200.

Twin B Tuffenuff, the morning line favourite, has post three and will be driven by Barrieau for the Ron Matheson barn and owner Pat Morris of Charlottetown. The Rock N Roll Heaven nine-year-old has put together one of his best seasons to date as he now sits at $99,818 in earnings in 2024 to along with his 10 wins, five seconds and six thirds. Twin B Tuffenuff knocked off the top class on Oct. 19 with a 1:52.3 effort.

Top pacer Roll Em (Marc Campbell) has post five for trainer Brent Campbell with the son of Time To Roll coming off a third-place finish to Twin B Tuffenuff in his last start. Wind Blown (Paul Langille) hails from the hot Phil Sizer barn and has two wins and three seconds from his last five starts. Also in the field are Blood Money (Dowling), Time To Dance (Merner) and Bee Two Bee (Hughes).

The Post Time Picks will go with Twin B Tuffenuff to win: “We had Twin B Tuffenuff on top of the ticket last out and he delivered big time scoring in 1:52.3. He’s put together an awesome season and this is a great partnership so they’re on top of the podium.”
