Layton Hanover Wins Harrington Free-For-All
Layton Hanover ($3.60) and driver Montrell Teague overcame an overland route for a decisive 1:52.3 win in the featured $31,250 Free-For-All Handicap Pace on Monday, Oct. 21 at Harrington Raceway.
Owned by David Rovine Stable, Ctc Stable and Mike Hall, the five-year-old Captaintreacherous gelding was outside the entire mile before clearing the lead in the top of the stretch and drawing away from the field for his ninth win of the season. Mack was second with Ats Hanover third. Trained by his co-owner Hall, Layton Hanover recorded his third straight triumph. The win was one of two for Teague on the card, who maintains a two-win lead over Corey Callahan in the driver standings.
After the fifth race, Bobby Glassmeyer’s Sweet Angel Boy was honoured as the Delaware Valley Chapter of the United States Harness Writers’ Association’s Horse of the Meet. The six-year-old Sweet Lou gelding won 10 races at the meet and was a near unanimous selection after winning two of the track’s biggest races, the $68,493 Governor’s Cup and $67,568 Bobby Quillen Memorial.
Jason Green drove four winners on the card, three of which were for trainer Chuck Crissman Jr. Meanwhile, Crissy Crissman-Bier trained two winners on the card and maintains a seven-win lead over Joe Columbo in the trainer standings with two nights remaining in the meet.
Live harness racing will continue through Wednesday with a post time of 4:30 p.m.
