Fashion Contender Takes Mohawk Thursday Feature
Fashion Contender was the top contender in the Thursday evening, Oct. 17 feature at Woodbine Mohawk Park with a victory in an $18,000 conditioned trot.
James MacDonald and the Scott West student left from post seven in the field of 10 trotters. Southview Aviator and Doug McNair were the first to the quarter in :28.4, followed by Fashion Contender and MacDonald. At the half, Fashion Contender had the upper hand in clicking the timer first over Southview Aviator. Stormont Cheerio (Brett MacDonald) advanced on the outside, but Fashion Contender continued on the lead through the three-quarters in 1:27.4. Brushing off his foes, Fashion Contender used a :28.2 final panel to win by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:56.1. Southview Aviator took second and Hp Run Detector (Tyler Borth) completed the ticket for show.
A four-year-old gelded son of Father Patrick and the Muscle Hill mare Consuela Fashion, Fashion Contender is owned by West. He won his second straight race and second race of his 32-race career in a new lifetime mark. Fashion Contender returned $9.20 to his backers as the 4-1 third choice.
