Ponda Type, Whatitisyo Top Hoosier Sale's Opening Day
Ponda Type and Whatitisyo attracted matching six-figure bids from the same buyer to top the opening session of the 2024 Hoosier Classic Yearling Sale on Friday, Oct. 18 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis.
Both yearlings were purchased for $198,630 ($145,000 USD) by Pat DeLong of South Beloit, Illinois.
Ponda Type, selling as Hip 132 from the Pond-A-Acres consignment, is a filly by Rockin Image out of multiple New York Sire Stakes winner Sweetnsinful. Ponda Type is a full sister to the Indiana Sire Stakes champion and last year's Dan Patch Stakes winner, Ponda Warrior ($747,738 - 1:48s).
Whatitisyo, Hip 135 consigned by Bontrager Stables, is a Tellitlikeitis-Honeys Luck colt, who is a half-sibling to Indiana Sire Stakes winners Amazing Arya ($344,141 - 1:51.2s), Marvelous Marshia ($307,859 - 1:50.1s) and Madelines Blk Jack ($236,642 - 1:50.4f).
Rounding out the top three highest priced yearlings of the sale's opening session was Ponda Suite, Hip 64, selling for $184,931 ($135,000 USD). Consigned by Pond-A-Acres, the Swan For All-Aperfectcrystal filly, who is a full sister to last year's sale topper Ponda Jewel, was purchased by Burke Racing Stable of Fredericktown, Pennsylvania. Ponda Suite is the second foal from her dam, who is a half sister to Grand Circuit stakes winner Aperfectyankee.
A total of 173 yearlings went through the sales ring during the first session on Friday, selling for $6,211,644 ($4,534,500 USD) with an average price of $35,906 ($26,211 USD).
The two-day sale will continue on Saturday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m., featuring Hips 176-350.
