Turn The Page N Wins Fifth Straight At Plainridge

Turn The Page N

Turn The Page N fended off four feisty females to register her fifth consecutive win in the $33,784 Open Pace for fillies and mares at Plainridge Park on Tuesday (Oct. 8) afternoon.

Swedish Starlet N (Matty Athearn) fought for and gained the lead from Remy Brown N (Brett Beckwith) at the :26.1 quarter and then led at the half in :54.1. It was there that the prohibitive 1-9 favourite, Turn The Page N (Ron Cushing), had made her way alongside the leader before taking control as the race proceeded onto the backstretch.

Turn The Page N paced comfortably on the point as Jenden Strike A (Mitchell Cushing) threatened first-over with Side Piece (Drew Monti) following intently one out, and two back. They went around the far turn and entered the stretch where Side Piece tipped off cover and was in full flight in the straightaway. Side Piece made up ground all the way to the line but came up a half length short to Turn The Page N, who won in 1:50.2.

With her eighth win of the year, Turn The Page N ($2.10) went over the century mark for 2024 earnings, now showing $146,750 for her owners Ron Cushing and Kevin Sywyk. Heidi Cushing trains the winner.

The secondary feature was a $27,703 upper level conditioned pace for fillies and mares and after five lead changes by the half, Racy Roxy A (Jay Randall) was on the point going to three-quarters with Racin Hungry (Mitchell Cushing) pressing on the outside and Stay Jelly (Brett Beckwith) on her back. Racin Hungry cleared heading into the lane, but Stay Jelly was doing the better work in the middle of the track and got up late to win over Violets Rainbow (Matty Athearn) in 1:52.1, tying her lifetime mark.

Stay Jelly ($22.00) is owned by Dragon Tales Farm and trained by Michelle Crawford.

Brett Beckwith and Matty Athearn both ended the day with three wins during the afternoon.

Racing resumes at Plainridge Park on Thursday (Oct. 10) at 2 p.m. and there will be a $9,184 carryover in the Wicked Hi-5 pentafecta in race six.
