Shouldaknownbetter put on a dominant display on Sunday, Oct. 6 at Leamington Raceway, delivering a double-digit length victory in the $5,000 Preferred 4 Trot, which highlighted the 10-race card.

Shouldaknownbetter left from the rail with driver Lorne House, protecting that inside starting position on the first turn to get away second behind Duke Deo (Anthony Hamlin) through a quarter of :28. Shouldaknownbetter moved to the top just beyond the quarter pole to quickly assume command before reaching the halfway point in :58.4. Classy Guy (Nick Steward) moved first-up to challenge the leader entering the third turn before both he and Duke Deo went off stride, leaving Shouldaknownbetter alone on the lead at three-quarters in 1:29.1.

On the final turn, Shouldaknownbetter opened up by seven lengths with Toscano Girl (Garrett Rooney) second at that point. Trotting home in :29.4, Shouldaknownbetter extended the lead to 10-1/2 lengths on the wire, stopping the timer in 1:59. Toscano Girl held for second, with Fox Valley Ontario (Donald Rankin) finishing third.

Michael Hamlin owns and trains Shouldaknownbetter, who has won eight of 31 races on the season. The six-year-old gelded son of Deep Chip-Lexis Electra is an 18-time winner for his career, having banked $137,855 lifetime.

Shouldaknownbetter paid $4.60 to win.
