Keep An Eye On Dabarndawgswatchin

Dabarndawgswatchin

With all eyes on Silver Label potentially prepping for a Breeders Crown appearance, Dabarndawgswatchin uncorked a solid mile in the $36,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Woodbine Mohawk Park that just missed her lifetime mark.

Driver Louis-Philippe Roy sent the third choice on the toteboard to the top from post five and didn't look back from there. Under confident handling and honest fractions, Dabarndawgswatchin clicked off panels of :26.4, :54.4 and 1:22 before pacing home in :27.2 for the 1:49.2 tally. Huntress (Sylvain Filion) couldn't make a dent in the leader's margin after a pocket trip and finished second by 1-1/2 lengths. Favoured Silver Label (Doug McNair) was a non-factor in third.

Dave Menary trains Dabarndawgswatchin (Hes Watching - Addison Bay) for owners Julia Ferguson of Greely and Lloyd Stone of Portland, Ont. Her lifetime mark of 1:49 came almost one year ago — Sept. 23, 2023 — in the same class at Mohawk. From there, she tussled with the sport's best in the 2023 Breeders Crown eliminations and qualified for the final. A similar path could be in store for the 24-time winner with more than $707,000 in earnings.

She returned $13.00 to win on Saturday.

Favourites had a tough time of it on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Woodbine Mohawk Park with just the average $2 win price coming in at $35.74 over the 10-race card. Normally a track with a 45 per cent clip for winning favourites, Saturday sported just a 20 per cent return for the public choice.

There was no bigger upset on Saturday night than the 70-1 bomb ignited by driver Doug McNair and Howyouplay Thegame in the evening's third race. Splitting through rivals late, Howyouplay Thegame hit the wire a half length the best in the 1:52 mile and returned $142.50 on a $2 win ticket.
