Dealin With Dewey Delivers Decisively At Flamboro
The odds at post time told the tale. According to the betting public, Dealin With Dewey was a lead-pipe cinch in the $11,000 Preferred Trot on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Flamboro Downs. His supporters were spot on.
A 1:56.3 winner in this class just six days ago, Dealin With Dewey faced six rivals in his Saturday test. And he passed that test with flying colours.
Driver Jason Ryan asked the six-year-old for early speed after the wings of the starting gate folded, and Dealin With Dewey obliged willingly to pocket up behind second choice R Royal Port (Scott Coulter). That 3-1 shot chopped out fractions of :27.4, :57.2 and 1:26 as the front duo achieved some separation from the rest of the field. Ryan tugged on the right line heading into that final turn, and didn't give Dealin With Dewey much instruction from there. The veteran trotted by the tempo setter with ease, tripping the timer in 1:55. R Royal Port was best of the rest in second more than two lengths in arrears with Hesohot Hanover (Doug Brown) a tepid third.
Sara Baillargeon of Guelph, Ont. trains and owns Dealin With Dewey (Wheeling N Dealin - Rockin With Dewey), now a four-time winner this season and 15-time winner lifetime with $295,706 in earnings. As the 1-9 choice, he returned a dime on a $2 win wager.
