Campbell Wins Seven Races At Century Mile

Metaki

Trainer/driver Brandon Campbell was a familiar face in the Century Mile winner's circle on Friday, Oct. 4 as he won seven of the evening's 12 races.

Campbell went on a five-race win streak in races two through six that including three winners from his own stable: homebred sophomore filly Ima Fist Fight ($14.10), pacing mare Metaki ($15.90) and six-year-old leasee Rapido Dom ($22.30), an Alberta newcomer who scored his first win since May 2022. Trainer Samuel Johnson's homebred mare Rezies Gal ($21.30) was another upset winner with Campbell driving. His streak included just one favourite in three-year-old filly Delta Sunrise ($3.30) for trainer Kelly Crump.

The bettors eventually jumped on the bandwagon making the Campbell-trained and leased four-year-old gelding Yenoh Who ($6.10) the favourite in the 10th race and that pacer delivered another victory for the stable with Phil Giesbrecht driving. Campbell then went out and won the next race driving even-money choice Laz To First ($4) for trainer Chris Lancaster.

Metaki's victory was in the featured $11,000 fillies and mares claiming-conditioned pace as she shook loose in the stretch and caught popular Preferred mare Outlaw Sharktastic at the wire in 1:52.4 for owner Jodi Loftus, with the winner's stablemate, Red N Ready, two lengths back in third. Returning to the Edmonton oval for the first time this season, the five-year-old daughter of Vertical Horizon lowered her lifetime mark by more than one full second and won for the fifth time in her last eight starts.
