Swift Talker Prevails In Mohawk Friday Feature
Three-year-old pacing filly Swift Talker used a swift closing kick to get up just in time for the victory at Woodbine Mohawk Park in Friday night's feature, a $19,000 fillies and mares conditioned pace.
In the first of three winning drives on the night for Tyler Borth, favourite Swift Talker got away seventh through a :27.2 opening quarter and chased cover through middle splits of :55.4 and 1:24 before sprinting a :27.2 final quarter to reel in the leaders and prevail in a lifetime best 1:52 flat. She won by a neck over a resurgent Definingthe Moment (Louis-Philippe Roy) and the wide drifting Tea Party Hanover (Doug McNair).
Coming off a closing fourth-place finish in the Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots final last Saturday, Swift Talker was sent off as the 3-2 favourite and paid $5 to win.
John Pentland trains the swift-footed filly, who has won three of her 13 races this year to earn the bulk of her $42,900 bankroll for owner Hutt Racing Stable.
