Tracking Canada's Harness Racing Leaders
As the 2024 harness racing season hits the three-quarter mark, Trot Insider provides an update on the national leaderboard for drivers and trainers.
James MacDonald, defending three-time Driver of the Year, continues his reign atop the Canadian standings as the only reinsman to hit the 300-win mark and $7 million in earnings so far this year on home turf. He's driven winners of 344 races and $7,218,589 in purses while competing in Canada.
Travis Henry holds down the second spot for wins with 280 while Garrett Rooney has cracked the top three with 243 victories. Rounding out the top three for earnings are a pair of "Five-Million-Dollar-Men" in Louis-Philippe Roy ($5,772,435) and Doug McNair ($5,186,730).
In the UDRS category, Brandon Campbell is the front-runner with a .425 rating followed by Guy Gagnon with a slight edge at .400 over Marc Campbell at .396.
Jodie Cullen has taken over the top spot in the trainer standings for wins with her stable sending out 172 successful starters so far this year while Anthony Beaton has jumped to number one in the earnings category with a total of $2,549,816 amassed in purses on Canadian soil.
Richard Moreau, who last raced on July 22, ranks second for wins with 160 and earnings with $2,445,905. Kyle Fellows is the only other trainer to top the 100-win mark with his count climbing to 114 and earnings up to $1,962,931 placing him third in both categories.
Guy Gagnon also sports and impressive URS on the training side, leading that category at .424. Melissa Rennie sits second with .411 and Brandon Campbell is third at .394.
**All statistics include Canadian starts from Jan. 1, 2024 to Sept. 30, 2024, with 200 start minimum for URS.
