Stash The Cookies Resumes Winning Ways At Century Mile
Stash The Cookies picked up where she left off one month ago and easily defeated Alberta's top distaffers.
After winning three consecutive starts in August at Century Downs, the John Chappell trainee made a successful return to action on Friday night in the Century Mile meet's first $12,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred for owner Derek Gilbert. Stash The Cookies, who also a winner the last time she raced at the Edmonton oval in December, was the even-money favourite.
Despite being handicapped outside in a field of nine with one trailer and being parked through the first quarter, Stash The Cookies forged ahead and won by two lengths in 1:54.1 for driver Dave Kelly. If Only Id Known (Kelly Hoerdt) was relegated to the runner-up role after the :28.2 opening panel and followed the leader through middle splits of :57 and 1:25.2 in the race for place. Outlaw Sharktastic (Nathan Sobey) closed off cover and was just shy in the photo finish for second.
Stash The Cookies, an eight-year-old daughter of Sunfire Blue Chip and Saucy B, is now seven-for-nine on the season. The career winner of 37 races has banked $374,734 to date.
