Black Tie Bash Strikes At Perfect Time In Preferred
Black Tie Bash bided his time at the back of the pack in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Trot on Thursday evening, Sept. 26 at Rideau Carleton Raceway as he waited until the stretch drive to overtake the field and win by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:55.3.
Robert Shepherd took the Isabelle Darveau student back to last in the field of seven and they maintained that position, 8-1/2 lengths off the leader, through the quarter in :27.3 and half in :56.1. Black Tie Bash moved out through the three-quarters in 1:25.2, still sitting at the back of the pack. With a burst in the final quarter, he sprinted to the lead and kept on going to win. Emma Town Bud (Pierre Bovay) finished second while The Great Emotion (Pascal Berube) rounded out the top three.
Black Tie Bash is a six-year-old gelded son of Chapter Seven and the Kadabra mare Daylon Mermaid owned by Robert Shepherd. He moved his 2024 tally to 6-7-4 in 29 starts and past the six figure mark at $101,454. With $334,322 in career earnings in the bank, Black Tie Bash won his 34th career race. As the second choice in the field, he paid $4.50 to win.
