Powertrain Returns During Mohawk Qualifiers
Older pacer Powertrain returned from a six-month layoff during the session of qualifiers on Friday, Sept. 20 at Woodbine Mohawk Park and showed some of the talent that helped him defeat horses the likes of Bulldog Hanover and Desperate Man nearly three years ago to the day.
With Louis-Philippe Roy at the controls, Powertrain powered to the top of his five-horse qualifier on Friday morning, clearing Four By Bour (Tyler Borth) to lead through the opening turn and not face a serious threat after that. Pacing through fractions of :28.1, :57.1 and 1:26, Powertrain scooted home in :26.2 to trip the timer in 1:52.2. Four By Four finished second, just over two lengths in arrears.
Now six, Powertrain (Shadow Play-Mmillion Blue Chip) is trained by Nick Gallucci and owned by his breeder, Millar Farms of Stouffville, Ont. The 11-time winner sports a mark of 1:48.2 taken as a three-year-old and more than $354,000 in career earnings.
