Ontario Racing (OR) will be hosting a symposium on racetrack surfaces on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Grand River Raceway.

Attendees will have an opportunity to learn from some of North America’s leading racetrack professionals, equipment providers and researchers, including demonstrations of current racetrack maintenance technology.

All those involved or interested in maintaining racing surfaces — at racetracks, training centres and private farms — are invited to attend the event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and will be followed by a barbecue buffet on the Grand River Raceway patio.

“With horse health and safety being at the forefront across North America, the Committee felt this opportunity to learn and share best practices would be valuable to everyone involved in maintaining racetracks,” said Ian Fleming, the chair of Ontario Racing’s Racetrack Operations Committee, which spearheaded the event. “We’d like to thank everyone who is contributing to what should be a very informative day.”

Key contributors include event sponsor Equine Equipment LLC, track consultant Dan Coon, who will make the keynote presentation, and Thoume Construction, general contractors for the Grand River Raceway surface reconstruction.

There is no cost to attend the symposium, but advance registration is required. To reserve your spot, call or text 416-453-8223 or email [email protected] before Wednesday, Sept. 18.
