SC Rewind: Picture Parade, Part 2

SC Rewind: Picture Parade

This week's Rewind is the familiar 'Picture Parade' format seen each month. This time around it is a follow up from last week and once again features pictures of winners from two very famous annual races. This evening's card at Woodbine Mohawk Park will feature both the 2024 editions of The Maple Leaf Trot and The Canadian Pacing Derby. This is the continuation of a lot of harness racing history.

Each picture will feature a past winner of one of these events, with five from each gait presented. The task at hand is to name the horse, the driver or any other aspect of the picture that you recognize.

Note: Minimal clues will be given but each photo will include either of the following abbreviations: MLT (Maple Leaf Trot) or CPD (Canadian Pacing Derby).  Also some of these photos may not have been taken at either featured event but they are all of a winner of either the Maple Leaf Trot or the Canadian Pacing Derby. A lot of great horses have been winners of these two legendary races.

Quote For The Week: "People are seldom impressed by people who are trying to impress them."

Blast From The Past

Blast from the Past

The above pictured gentleman is the winningest owner in the long history of the Canadian Pacing Derby. He won five Derbys in a span of eight years with just two horses. Can you name him? A little clue is that his one and only son was a very famous and beloved member of Canadian harness racing for many years and passed away just a couple of years ago.

The gentleman pictured in the "Blast From The Past" was J.W. "Jim" Brown as correctly answered by some of this week's responders. He was a five time Canadian Pacing Derby winning owner as he won in 1940 with Miss Vera Bars (only mare to win the CPD) and in 1944,1945,1947 and 1948 with The Count B. He was the father of the late Dr. Glen Brown DVM ,long time head of the Armbro operation. The picture was from 1940.
