Summerside Raceway

The Gamester-Pinkney Cup second leg for young pari-mutuel drivers was held on the Tuesday, Aug. 20 evening card at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway with O’Leary, P.E.I. cousins Brady Sweet and Jaycob Sweet landing in a tie for first place.

The competition for drivers 30 years and younger with under 100 wins had drivers Jaycob Sweet, Zach Conway, Luke Armstrong, Kyle Desroche, Brady Sweet, Kyle Mason and Brett Clow vying for the top four spots to qualify for the Aug. 27 final set for Red Shores Summerside.

Brady Sweet captured the first division with his trainee Hf Jesse James ($5) in race six. The Pang Shui-Kinda Funky eight-year-old gelding made every pole a winning one en route to a 2:01.1 score by a half length over Jaycob Sweet and Love That Miramont.

In the second division in race eight, Jaycob Sweet turned the tables on the placings, winning with his own student, Timberlea Lady ($4.60), by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:58.2. The Pang Shui-Duchess Killean sophomore filly won from gate-to-wire over Brady Sweet and Its Model Time.

Drivers Kyle Desroche and Brett Clow will join Jaycob and Brady Sweet in the final to be held Aug. 27 at Red Shores Summerside. Four drivers from the Nova Scotia leg will also compete in the eight-horse final with that group consisting of Ryder Rennison, Keigan Madden, Brett Leblanc and Keith Legge.

There was no denying Wind Blown in the Tuesday evening featured pace at Summerside Raceway.

Paul Langille put the free-legged son of Mach Three on the lead in the $3,200 featured pace and kicked out opening splits of :27.3 and :56.2. Second choice Woodmere Denny (Dale Spence) came calling first-over and raced the pacesetter past three-quarters of 1:25. Wind Blown opened up in the final split to win in 1:53.1 with Woodmere Denny four-lengths back in second and Woodmere Ideal Art (Jason Hughes) third.

Phil Sizer trains the winning pacer for owners Doug Polley Jr., and Doug Polley Sr., of Nova Scotia.
