Blue Devil found his way to the winner's circle on Monday, Aug. 19 at Woodbine Mohawk Park, prevailing at the wire in a $12,000 Pop Up Series division over the favourite for his first win of the year.

As the second leg of the series, the Pop Up Series featured three divisions on Monday's card for trotters who are non-winners of $18,000 (fillies and mares $22,500) in 2024 with a minimum of 10 starts. Also eligible were non-winners of $1,500 (fillies and mares $1,875) in 2024 and first leg starters. The $20,000 final is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 26 at the Campbellville oval. 

Blue Devil blew up the toteboard as the swiftest winner with the longest odds in his field of eight. Tyler Jones held the lines for Jason Libby, lining up in post five on the gate.

Cadillac Moon (Doug McNair) was quick to the lead and controlled the timer with quarters in :27.4, :57 and 1:26.3. Blue Devil followed in second, pulling behind a first-over Mystic (Tyler Borth) en route to the third quarter pole. Favoured Mystic cleared the top as the leader faded. Blue Devil kept on the charge and the pair battled down the stretch, leaving the field in their wake. Down to the wire, Blue Devil prevailed by a head over Mystic in the hefy upset clocked in 1:55.3. Mystic finished four lengths ahead of the show finisher, Shes Beer League (Chris Christoforou). 

Blue Devil (Anders Bluestone-Overnight Hit) made his fourth start on Canadian soil under trainer Jason Libby a winning one. Also his first win of the year in 17 tries, the six-year-old gelding marked his 18th career victory to go along with $222,417 earned in 97 starts. Libby, Timothy Flynn and Joyce Empey co-own the winner. Sent off as the longest shot at 27-1, Blue Devil returned $56.70 to win.

Delcrest Brent ($13.70) took the first division of the series for the evening with a 1:56.3 triumph by two lengths. Co-owner and driver Steven Hudon steered the five-year-old Il Sogno Dream-Northern Kitti gelding to his 10th career win for trainer and co-owner Laura Toscani.

Macallan ($2.50) rounded out the Pop Up Series action with a gate-to-wire victory in 1:56 by 1-1/4 lengths. Scott Young was in the bike for Timothy Cherwaiko, who co-owns the Credit Winner-Margarita Hall gelding with Gary Green. The win was his second straight in the series.
