My Debt Collecter Claims Another NYSS Victory
Two-year-old trotting filly My Debt Collecter cruised to her second New York Sire Stakes (NYSS) victory at Monticello Raceway on Monday afternoon, Aug. 19.
Driver Jim Taggart Jr. left from post three with My Debt Collecter in the $145,616 NYSS and crossed to the front in the first turn. Once settled on the point, she cruised uncontested through fractions of :29, :59.2 and 1:29.3. The 4-5 favourite, Beautiful Sight (Tyler Buter), and a three-wide Calculus Risk (Jordan Stratton) tried to make it a race turning for home, but My Debt Collecter was home free in the straightaway, winning by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:59.4. Calculus Risk edged out Beautiful Sight in a photo for place.
Trained by Richard 'Nifty' Norman, My Debt Collecter has earned top three finishes in all five of her starts, winning twice and earning $184,281 in purses. Her other victory was also in the NYSS, a 1:57.4 score on July 14 at Tioga Downs.
The daughter of Chapter Seven is out of the Grand Circuit stakes-winning Kadabra mare, Magic Presto, who was also trained by Norman. The homebred filly is owned by Melvin Hartman of Ottawa, Ont., along with Florida's David McDuffee and New York's Little E Llc.
My Debt Collecter paid $5.70 to win as the 9-5 second choice in the field of seven.
Monday's card also included a pair of $27,397 Excelsior Series divisions for the freshman trotting fillies. The popular Paul Kelley trainee Going To Vegas romped to an 8-3/4-length victory in 2:02 to break her maiden in the first division with Buter aboard. Always A Story closed late for a 19-1 upset in the second split, prevailing by a half-length to notch her second straight win in 2:02.2 for trainer/driver Gates Brunet.
